Do It Like Derek Did It.

I sent this photo to a client todimage.ay.

He called a few days ago. Something happened at work. He was seething with anger. That anger moved him to reach out to me and it continues to fuel him to do whatever it takes to find a better place to work. That’s where the photo of Derek Jeter flying into the stands comes in. It’s classic Jeter. Jeter did whatever it took to make a play. He committed 100%. Very little got past him.

My client asked me to hold him accountable. Anticipating that his momentum would wane, I asked him if he was ready to commit.

I said, “Commitment means that you will do whatever you need to do whether you feel like it or not. Are you ready to commit? Are you ready to do at least three things each day towards finding your next job?”

He committed. Everyday, he writes to me and describes three things he did the day before to find a new job. He’s reaching out to former colleagues. He’s following up on leads. He’s not just pressing the “Apply” button. He’s actually calling people and asking them if they know people who work at companies for which he has applied. I’m impressed with his process and effort. Plus, he’s sustaining his momentum through commitment. He’s doing it like Derek and I am certain if he continues, he will win.
