Avoiding holiday parties because you don’t have a job

nikkiAre you unemployed and avoiding holiday parties? Please reconsider! Holiday parties are some of the best ways to put yourself out there.

 Here’s why:

1. Maybe it’s the spiked eggnog but I’ve noticed that lot of folks are slightly more empathetic and a little more generous with their time. Tell them how you can add value to their Company or have courage, and ask for a good contact.

2. A lot of people are feeling the End-of-the Year crunch. Offer your assistance. Ask for a project. Tell potential employers you can hit the ground running and are willing to work straight though the Holidays!

3. Try not to let “discomfort” get in the way of a potential employment opportunity. Work through it.  Adults who feel discomfort are experiencing “emotional growing pains” and that’s a good kind of pain. Be open to possibility that someone at the very party you want to avoid could use your services.

Happy Holidays. Have courage. I’ll be rooting for ya!
